Florianópolis · Santa Catarina
Café colonial: one generous shared table, priced per person, eaten slowly and in company. Not brunch, not a buffet — an afternoon.
The format
It is an institution of Santa Catarina with German and Azorean roots: a large shared table — breads, cakes, tortas, cucas, cold cuts, cheeses, sausage, jams, hot dishes and drinks — served per person, for one fixed price.
You eat slowly. Usually in the afternoon, usually with company. Nobody orders a dish: the table arrives whole and stays.
It is not brunch. It is not afternoon tea. It is not a buffet — you do not get up to serve yourself. It is a format and an occasion, and that is why you book it.
[CONFIRM] How long a table lasts at your place, and whether there is a last-seating time. It is the question that decides whether someone can fit a café colonial into their day.
The table
Seven groups. Not one item has been invented — every list is a named slot waiting for your real table.

The top tier of the stand.
The cuca is the German heart of the table.
The savoury side, which holds up the afternoon.
What goes on the bread.
What comes out of the kitchen hot.
Coffee, tea and juice.
Café colonial
A colonial table is, in practice, a wheat table: breads, cucas, cakes and tortas share the same space and the same utensils. Whether a coeliac guest can be served safely is an answer that has to be given outright — and we will not imply that they can. [CONFIRM]
Book
The form composes a complete, organised message and opens WhatsApp. It sends nothing on its own and holds no table — but it arrives on the other side with the date, time, party size and dietary notes already written, instead of a loose thread that gets lost.
[CONFIRM] Minimum party size, minimum notice, and the time slots that actually exist. All three appear in the form the moment they do.
Groups
It is the most profitable thing a café colonial does — and today it arrives as a loose message, gets lost, and cannot be counted.
Pâtisserie
For anyone not doing the whole table. Price by the slice and whole, all to be confirmed.
Orders
Minimum lead time, sizes and prices: [CONFIRM]
Made here
We have not written “everything made in-house”. It is the easiest sentence to put on a café-colonial site and the easiest one to get wrong — and if part of the production comes out of a home kitchen, it brings its own sanitary requirement with it.
Heritage
The Santa Catarina café colonial grows out of two table traditions meeting: the German one, with its cucas, breads and sausage, and the Azorean one that settled the island’s coast. Blue-and-white ceramic, lace, dark timber and tiered cake stands are the visual grammar of that inheritance — used with restraint it reads as memory; overused it becomes a themed restaurant.
[CONFIRM] If your family has that ancestry and wants to tell that story, it becomes a section of its own. Until it is confirmed, the copy above speaks about the region — never about you.
