Multi Open Shopping · Florianópolis

A curation, not a shelf

Natural cosmetics, footwear and accessories chosen one at a time. The hard part of this business is not selling — it is telling what delivers on its promise apart from what merely looks natural.

Speculative mockup. No price, brand name or certification appears on this page: the profile we were given sits behind a login wall and the domain the press points at does not resolve. Nothing was filled in by assumption.

The four words

Organic, vegan, cruelty free, natural

These are the four words that sell this category — and the four that cause the most trouble when they appear with nothing behind them.

Organic

Depends on certification by an accredited body, product by product. It is not a marketing adjective.

Evidence: [CONFIRM certificate]

Vegan

No animal-derived ingredient. A vegan mark is issued by a certifier and applies per product, not per shop.

Evidence: [CONFIRM certificate]

Cruelty free

Not tested on animals. Several Brazilian states ban animal testing for cosmetics, which changes what the mark signifies here.

Evidence: [CONFIRM certificate]

Natural

The slipperiest of the four: it has no single legal definition. Which is why this site describes what is inside instead of repeating the adjective.

Evidence: [CONFIRM certificate]

None of these four words appears anywhere on this site as a settled claim. A March 2020 article records the shop saying that “most products are organic”, that they are “99% vegan” and that “all are cruelty free”. That is five and a half years old, it did not come from the shop to us, and a catalogue percentage moves every time a new supplier arrives. Republishing it as today’s fact would be misleading advertising if it were wrong — CDC arts. 30 and 37.
The right move is the opposite, and it sells better: say which lines are certified, by whom and since when. A named mark with a year beats “99% vegan” in any reading.

Brands

Forty-odd brands, and not one of them written here

The curation is the product. It is also the most valuable search asset this shop owns — and the only one that cannot be published without permission.

Why a brands page is worth so much. People looking for natural cosmetics almost never search “natural cosmetics shop”: they search a brand name plus the city. Every brand the shop carries is a doorway that does not currently exist. A 2020 article spoke of more than 40 brands, Brazilian and imported from Germany, Italy, the USA, Lithuania and Sweden. [CONFIRM the current list]
No brand name has been written on this page, and that is deliberate. A third party’s mark is a third party’s property: publishing the list needs written permission from each supplier, and several distribution agreements have a clause about exactly this. It is the first thing to ask for and it usually comes back quickly, because it suits both sides. [CONFIRM permission brand by brand]

The shop

A physical shop inside a shopping centre

Natural cosmetics is a category you smell, test and ask about. The physical shop is not an operational detail: it is the argument.

A detail worth money: Multi Open Shopping is itself one of the leads on this list, and at least two other businesses from the same building are on it too. A footer that says where you are inside the centre, with an entrance and a floor, answers the question that arrives most often by message.

Sustainability

What can be proved, and what cannot

A shop that sells sustainability is a shop that will be held to it. The difference between a strong argument and a problem is the evidence.

Environmental advertising is regulated. CONAR treats environmental claims under their own standard: a claim must be truthful, accurate, relevant and provable, and must not imply a greater benefit than the real one. The CDC (arts. 30, 31 and 37) makes advertising binding on the supplier. In practice: every green sentence on this site needs a document behind it before it goes up.
And cosmetics carry their own rules. Personal hygiene products, cosmetics and perfumes are regulated by ANVISA, with registration and labelling requirements. A therapeutic claim — to treat, cure or relieve a symptom — changes the product’s category and cannot be made for a cosmetic. That counts double in aromatherapy. [CONFIRM the wording each supplier authorises]

Packaging and refills

Refilling is the easiest practice to prove: either the shop takes the jar back and refills it, or it does not. [CONFIRM whether there is a refill station and for which products]

Where the ingredients come from

Direct import from Germany, Italy, the USA, Lithuania and Sweden was reported in 2020. Importing has a footprint too, and an honest shop says so rather than hiding it. [CONFIRM the current list]

Animal testing

Several Brazilian states ban animal testing for cosmetics. That changes what a cruelty free mark means here, and it is worth explaining rather than just displaying. [CONFIRM]

What the shop cannot guarantee

Saying this out loud is what separates a policy from a slogan. [CONFIRM the limits the shop accepts]

Where you are on the web

Three addresses, and the main one does not exist

This section does not usually belong on a shop’s website. It belongs on this one because it is the most expensive item on the list and nobody seems to have noticed.

The domain in the press does not resolve

terramayacosmetica.com.br returns NXDOMAIN. It is not a site that is down: the domain does not exist in DNS. Every article and every directory still sends people there, and those people arrive nowhere.

A shop exists on another domain

terramaya.com.br answers and sells cosmetics, footwear and accessories, with the line “Cosmetics that respect your skin — and the planet”. Florianópolis appears nowhere on it. [CONFIRM whether it is yours]

Two Instagram profiles

The record we were given carries @terramayacuradoria; the press points to @terramayacosmetica. Two profiles split the audience, the history and the social proof down the middle. [CONFIRM which one stays] The logo you sent is signed «Curadoria Sustentável» — the same word as the @terramayacuradoria handle. That is evidence the current profile is that one, and that @terramayacosmetica and the dead domain of the same name are the previous identity. Evidence is not confirmation. [CONFIRM]

The order of the fix matters. First find out whether the dead domain can be recovered — if it can, it comes back and redirects to the new one, and five years of press links start working again. If it cannot, the next best thing is to settle on a single address and correct the directories one by one. Neither is design work, and both are worth more than any new page.

Frequently asked

What people ask before coming to the shop

Where is the shop?

At Multi Open Shopping in Florianópolis. The unit and floor inside the centre [CONFIRM] — and that is the question that arrives most often by message for a shop inside a mall, so it belongs in the footer of every page.

Do you sell online?

A shop is live at terramaya.com.br, but we could not confirm it belongs to the same company and it does not mention Florianópolis anywhere. [CONFIRM] If it is yours, click and collect is the obvious fit.

Are all the products vegan?

This site does not claim that. A March 2020 article records the shop saying “99% vegan”, but five and a half years on, with suppliers coming and going, that percentage cannot be republished as today’s fact. [CONFIRM product by product] What works better is marking each line on the shelf and on the page.

And organic? Is there a certificate?

Organic depends on certification by an accredited body and applies per product, not per shop. [CONFIRM which lines are certified, by which certifier and since when]

Which brands do you carry?

The list is the shop’s best search asset and it is not written here, because a third party’s mark needs written permission from the supplier. [CONFIRM the list and the permission]

Can I bring my jar and refill it?

Refilling is the easiest practice to prove and the one that builds the most loyalty. [CONFIRM whether there is a refill station and for which products]

Do you accept Pix?

Pix is the dominant method in Brazilian retail and the answer is almost always yes, but nothing has been confirmed by you. [CONFIRM the payment methods]

Is this Terra Maya’s official site?

No. It is a speculative mockup. The profile we were given sits behind a login wall, the domain the press points at does not resolve, and no price, brand or certification was invented to fill the page.
